Quick Buck Thursday

The beautiful thing about sports is that you really can't predict it. Now I'm sure some rich bookie somewhere would completely disagree with me as he swims Scrooge McDuck style in his piles and piles of money he's taken from dudes like me. But really, we watch it every week because we don't really know what is going to happen. Sure we can analyze stats til we're blue in the face, stare at trends until all we can see are line graphs and study injury reports until we become honorary doctors of sports medicine. But at the end of the day, we just don't know.

That is at least what I'm telling myself after going 1-4 in last week's column. Really FSU? Really? I mean come on. I hate the ACC with every fiber of my being. I hate them almost as much as I hate KU, who came in again and screwed me. Cyclones, you should be ashamed of yourselves. Oh and why we're talking about shame: Michigan. I knew I shouldn't have done it, but it did. And they proceeded to play like my nephews Pop Warner team on defense. Unreal.

And as predicted the I went against the CK award last week and what happened? It won. Utah didn't cover. Utah you're now on the list with the ACC and KU.

But we must keep moving forward. Some one somewhere is using these picks to their advantage and damn it I want my cut!! On with this week:

Georgia Tech @ Virginia Tech -13
Ok, I'm giving the ACC one more shot. Since the Yellow Jackets combined with KU to screw me in week one, they're likely to do it again. But, Va Tech has gotten things figured out since JMU took them down in week to. They are 6-0 ATS since that loss and look like the only sure thing in the mess that is the ACC.

UCF -2.5 @ Houston
Look UCF is a pretty efficient team, that runs the ball well and plays good defense. They are also 6-0 ATS in their last 6 games. With Houston ailing at the QB position I think the Knights can pull it out. And now with the Big East looking to expand and considering both these teams you better believe there is a lot on the line for both schools.

Hawaii +21 @ Boise State
Look I know Boise is good, especially at home. I don't believe that Hawaii will win the game out right, but I do think they are better than 21.5 points. Hawaii has the number 1 passing attack and are playing pretty solid defense. They are #2 in yards per play (albeit behind Boise) and only giving up 4.9 yards per play defensively. Also, they are 7-1 ATS this year. They have just been undervalued.

Oregon State -5.5 @ UCLA
I honestly don't know what to make of UCLA. It's a roller coaster ride with them. After watching a couple games I just don't think they're good at football. Couple that with Beavers 7-1 record ATS and I'll take Oregon State on the road.

The CK Award
TCU -4.5 @ Utah
Ok I'm going back to it, but only because I had this game picked out before the CK Award was released. Utah was the award winner this week so I'm feeling pretty good. Look TCU is really, really good. Air Force held Utah to a season low in yards and second lowest points. Not to mention TCU dismantled Air Force and Utah squeaked by. But this being the CK Award means that Utah will probably win outright.
