Quick Buck Thursday

This Thursday, QBT will be face deep in a plate full of turkey, mash potatoes, green been casserole and football so here is a special Wednesday edition of QBT.

Last week was, well, decent. OSU scared us early but pulled it out. NIU came through once again. Va Tech took care of business. Only MSU and it's shenanigans and Utah's year long battle against the CK Award didn't pay dividends. So 3-2, I'll take it.

This week is rivalry week so we will eschew our scavenging of favorable match ups and go against a cardinal rule to stay away from rivalry games. So lets celebrate rivalry week QBT style.

The Backyard Brawl
West Virginia +3 @ Pittsburgh
This is the 103rd meeting of the brawl where Pitt leads 61-38-3 all time. The last ten meetings are all knotted at 5-5. In what promises to be Tommy Tuberville's wet dream of a football game the #4 and #12 teams in total defense square off. They are about the same offensively: inept. It also pits two classic coaching faces against one an other. This should be a classic battle of coaching ineptitude. But we like the better defense in a game that will probably finish 12-6. As a bonus take the under at 40 in this one.

The Iron Bowl
Auburn @ Alabama -4.5
So what if Auburn comes in as the #2 team in the nation to the 75th Iron Bowl. Alabama leads this hate-fest 40-33-1 all time. This game is a classic top defense vs top offense battle. But when you look at the teams as a whole Alabama is more complete and is at home. Auburn had LSU, Arkansas and South Carolina all at home. The game the struggled the most in was at Mississippi State. Look for that type of struggle again.

The Game
Michigan @ Ohio State -17
Bo and Woody. The 10 Year War. Maize and Gold. Scarlet and Gray. Much has been written through the 106 years of this rivalry. Michigan leads the series 57-43-6. But Ohio State is on a 6 game winning streak and taking 8 out of the last 10. The fan in me wants to take the Wolverines in a game that could cement Rich Rods add another notch to the Michigan climb back to the top. But the gambler in me sees that Michigan is 3-7 ATS and OSU is 8-2-1 ATS this year. And this being a gambling post, well that's how we'll go. Bo, please forgive me.

The Bedlam Series
Oklahoma @ Oklahoma State -2.5
The 107th meeting sees Oklahoma way ahead in the series 81-16-7. Oklahoma is also on a 7 game win streak in the series. But this is the first time since 1997 that OSU is ranked higher than OU (a game that OSU won). Looking at the number OSU is 9-2 ATS this season and OU is 0-3 ATS on the road. Even though the CK Award says go with OU, but the CK Award hasn't been as rock solid as it has in other years. As a second bonus QBT suggests the over 67 in this one. Both of these defenses are pretty point friendly.

The Border War (I refuse to give in to you hippies that want to call this a showdown)
Kansas @ Missouri -24.5
The only rivalry that is based on actual murder, this is the 119th meeting. With Mizzou leading 55-54-9, that last 10 games have been split between the two. But as we know KU is horrible this year and Mizzou is good. KU hasn't been able to really score against quality defenses so look for that to continue.

Quick Buck Thursday is now 12-27-1 on the year.
