PS Bowl-A-Thon 2010: AutoZone Liberty Bowl

AutoZone Liberty Bowl

The Where and When:
December 31st, 3:30 p.m. est, Liberty Bowl, MEMPHIS, TN ESPN/ESPN3.

The Who:
Georgia Bulldogs (6-6, 3-5 SEC) vs Central Florida Knights (10-3, 7-1 CUSA)

The Why:
Georgia finished 8th in the SEC and will be going to it's 46th bowl game all time.

UCF is the Conference USA champion and gets its fourth bowl bid all time and second in a row.

What Smartypants Accounting Guy Would Tell You:
Georgia is a solid team statistically. Ranked 47th in total offense they are scoring 34.3 ppg (21). The pass (37th) better than run (71ts) but still a good ranking offense. Defensively, again decent. Number 28 in total defense, they are good against the pass at 20th and average against the run at 60th. They are giving up 23.1 ppg good for 46th nationally.

The Knights are pretty good statistically as well. The 58th ranked total offense features the 25th ranked running and 84th ranked passing game. But they do score, putting up 33.8 ppg good for 24th. Where they are good is defensively. The 18th ranked total defense the only give up 18 ppg (12th). With a top ten rush defense (9th) they are just 44th against the pass.

Georgia went win less against winning teams in five tries. UCF was a perfect 8-0 against non-winning teams. But Georgia did beat the only non-AQ school it faced and UCF fell to two AQ schools. Both were good down the stretch with Georgia going 3-2 and UCF going 4-1.

Pool Prognosticators Pattern:
Ugga is super cute. But I hear he's not going to make it to the game. I bet this will make the players sad. Knights are cool, but so 5 years ago. But I think the Georgia players are going to be too sad to play good. Go Knights.

Vegas Edge
Georgia is a 6.5 point favorite in this one. But they weren't very good ATS going 4-7. UCF on the other hand was a solid 9-3 ATS. UCF was the dog only once this season and went 1-0 and Georgia was 4-3 as the favorite.

The Sweatpants Verdict:
UCF lost to a good NC State team by 7 and should have beaten K State on the road. This won't be an easy game for Georgia. I think that UCF will run the ball with success and really keep Georgia out of an offensive rhythm. I think they pull off the upset.
