PS Bowl-A-Thon 2010: MAACO Bowl Las Vegas

MAACO Bowl Las Vegas

I love the MAACO Bowl Las Vegas!

The Where and When:
December 22md, 8:00 p.m. est, Sam Boyd Stadium, Las Vegas, NV ESPN/ESPN3.

The Who:
#19 Utah Utes (10-2, 7-1 MWC) vs #10 Boise State Broncos (11-1, 7-1 WAC)

The Why:
Utah spent most of the year bouncing around the polls finishing second in the Mountain West Conference in their final season before jetting off to the PAC 10. It is their third straight bowl and they are on a nine-game bowl win streak.

Boise State was in the National Championship hunt until they fell to ranked conference foe Nevada. Finishing second in the conference they go from BCS game to the 5th bowl on the bowl schedule. This is the Bronco's 9th straight bowl game and 11th since joining football FBS.

What Smartypants Accounting Guy Would Tell You:
Utah is statistically good. Their offense ranks 41st in total offense, 18th in scoring, 56th rushing and 37th passing. Defensively they're better. They are 20th in total defense, 22nd in scoring at 19 ppg, 8th against the run and 59th against the pass. All solid numbers.

Boise is as solid a team as it gets. The 4th ranked total offense they run (24th) and pass (6th) with great efficiency. They also score. The second ranked scoring offense in the Nation, they put up 46 ppg. But Boise, really wins on the defensive side of the ball. The 4th ranked total and scoring defense, they are 6th against the run and 3rd against the pass. All in all they are really good.

Both teams were good against winning teams with Utah going 4-2 and Boise 4-1. Boise faced three ranked teams to Utah's one going 2-1 and 0-1 respectively. To close things out Utah went 3-2 and Boise had the single loss to Nevada.

Pool Prognosticators Pattern:
What is a Ute? I think it's an Indian, right. I mean they have a feather on their hats. And I do love horses. And Broncos are the meanest horse. Go Horsies!

Vegas Edge
Boise opened as 15 pt favorites and the line has grown to -17. For a bowl game against a two loss team that's a huge spread. The last five games Boise is 3-2 and Utah is 1-4 ATS.

The Sweatpants Verdict:
Thanks to some generous friends, I will actually be on hand to witness this blood-letting. This is going to be my first Bowl Game and I'm hoping that we won't be tempted to leave at the half of a blow out. I honestly don't see anyway Utah stays with the Broncos. Peterson won't let them sulk and they're still plenty pissed about the Nevada loss. The Utes will be a Pac 10 team next year and Boise can use that as motivation for next season. Boise wins big and covers.

I vote you start writing for Caesars. I would take the other side of that bet but your logic convinces me otherwise.
