PS Bowl-A-Thon 2010: Meineke Car Care Bowl

Meineke Car Care Bowl

I know Pitt isn't in the game, but the Wanstache in a race car makes me happy.

The Where and When:
December 31st, 12:00 p.m. est, Bank of America Stadium, CHARLOTTE, NC ESPN/ESPN3.

The Who:
South Florida Bulls (7-5, 3-4 Big East) vs Clemson Tigers (6-6, 4-4 ACC)

The Why:
USF finished the season 5th in the Big East and heads to their 6th straight bowl game.

Clemson finished a disappointing 9th in the ACC this season but is heading to their 32nd bowl all time.

What Smartypants Accounting Guy Would Tell You:
The Bulls haven't won this year with their offense that's for certain. Just the 103rd ranked total offense they look to run (69th) more than pass (101st). They are just averaging 23.5 ppg (88th). it's defensively where they are actually very solid. Ranked 20th overall, they are only allowing 19.5 ppg (19th). They are good against the run and pass at 33rd and 21st respectively.

Clemson is actually very similar. Just 87th in total offense they average a slightly better 23.8 ppg (86) than the Bulls. And they come in with the 72nd rushing offense and the 85th ranked passing O. Defensively they are just behind the Bulls at 22nd in total defense. But the are more stingy on the scoreboard at 9th giving up 17.8 ppg. They are better than USF against the run at 29th but not the pass at 26th.

The Bulls were a perfect 4-0 against non winning teams. Clemson struggled against winners going 2-6. But they were 4-6 against AQ schools. But, the bulls were 4-5. USF finished better going 3-2 to Clemson's 2-3 to finish.

Pool Prognosticators Pattern:
This is great, cause I love the Chinese Zodiac. And guess what 2010 is: the year of the Tiger! Can you believe it? Go Tigers!

Vegas Edge
The Tigers come in at 4.5 point favorites. But neither team has been good ATS. Clemson went 5-6 and 2-3 down the stretch. USF was just as bad at 4-7 and 2-3 to finish. I think your best bet might be the under at 40.5.

The Sweatpants Verdict:
Two teams that are virtually the same. Despite their record against winning teams we think that Clemson is just a tad bit better than the Bulls. Plus, the Bulls will be without their starting QB. Clemson wins and covers.
