PS Bowl-A-Thon 2010: Sheraton Hawaii Bowl

Sheraton Hawaii Bowl

The Where and When:
December 24th, 8:00 p.m. est, Aloha Stadium, HONOLULU, HI ESPN/ESPN3.

The Who:
#24 Hawaii Rainbow Warriors (10-3, 7-1 WAC) vs Tulsa Golden Hurricane (9-3, 6-2 CUSA)

The Why:
Hawaii finished 3rd in the WAC behind Nevada and Boise St. This is the Warriors 10th bowl trip and 6th to the Sheraton Hawaii bowl.

Tulsa finished 3rd in Conference USA and are heading to their fifth bowl in the last six years, for their 17th bowl all-time.

What Smartypants Accounting Guy Would Tell You:
Offense. Offense. Offense. Hawaii is the number one passing attack in college football. It's good for 8th in total offense and 9th in scoring. But you really don't need to worry about the run as they are just 106th rushing offense. Defense is the new wrinkle for the Warriors. The 37th ranked total D is 32nd against the run and 53rd against the pass. They come in at 42nd in scoring defense at 22 ppg.

Not enough offense for you? Good, cause Tulsa is just a proficient. The 5th ranked total offense is more balanced than Hawaii. They are the 15th rushing and 16th passing. They also put up 39 ppg good for 10th nationally. Defensively, well...not so good. They are 107th in total defense. They are better against the run (40th) but horrible against the pass (119th). The Hurricanes win shoot outs as they give up 29 ppg (83rd)

These two teams are very similar when we look at their records. Both are 2-2 against winning teams. Both were good against non-AQ competition going 9-1 and 7-2. And only Hawaii lost to close the season going 4-1.

Pool Prognosticators Pattern:
I love Hawaii. All the leas and hula dancing. It's fantastic. But we all know what Hurricanes can do to islands. I watch the weather channel. Sorry Hawaii!

Vegas Edge
Hawaii is a big favorite in this game at 10.5. And it makes sense as they are 10-2 ATS and playing at home where they are 4-0 ATS as the favorite. I'd also look at the over, which is currently at 73. There will be points in this one.

The Sweatpants Verdict:
Hawaii at home. It's hard to go against them. They dealt Nevada their only loss and almost took out USC. The game should be exciting if you like offense. I think the Warriors have an edge defensively, win a high scoring affair and cover.
