PS Bowl-A-Thon 2010: Kraft Fight Hunger Bowl

Kraft Fight Hunger Bowl

We wouldn't have to eat Kraft Dinners, but we will for this game!

The Where and When:
January 9th, 9:00 p.m. est, AT&T Park, SAN FRANCISCO, CA, ESPN/ESPN3.

The Who:
#15 Nevada Wolf Pack (12-1, 7-1 WAC) vs Boston College Eagles (7-5, 4-4 ACC)

The Why:
A loss at one of the toughest places to play, in Hawaii, left Nevada out of the National picture. Their prize for winning the WAC and upsetting a Top 5 team in doing so: this game. This marks the Packs 9th bowl game all time and 6th in 7 years.

Boston College finished 6th in the ACC this season. This will be BC's 20th bowl game all time

What Smartypants Accounting Guy Would Tell You:
Nevada is a scary good offense. The 3rd ranked total offense is putting up 42.6 ppg (7th). They are the 3rd ranked rushing offense and 54th ranked passing attack. Defensively they do enough. The 65th ranked total defense gives up 22.1 ppg (35th). They are good against the run at 23rd but you can pass on they as they are 106th in passing defense.

BC is pretty much the opposite. They are awful offensive. The 105th, 109th, 87th and 93rd ranked total, scoring, rushing and passing offense. Shoot me now. Defensively though they are good. The 13th ranked total defense is allowing just 19.5 ppg. They are the number one rushing defense and 82nd against the pass.

The Pack was good against winning teams finishing 3-1 where BC was just 1-5. Nevada beat the only AQ school they faced. BC lost twice to ranked teams. But both teams finished at 5-0.

Pool Prognosticators Pattern:
Eagles and Wolves, yes. Oh you know that movie where those guys go to Vegas and lose their friend. And that one guy with the beard says "I'm a wolf pack of one". I love that movie. I'll go with the Wolf Pack.

Vegas Edge
Nevada is a 7.5 point favorite. ATS it's a deadlock. Nevada went 5-5 ATS as the fav and BC was 3-3 as the dog. Overall the Pack was 7-5 ATS and BC was 5-6. The over is 50, just something to consider.

The Sweatpants Verdict:
This is just a weird year for football. A WAC team was almost a double digit favorite over an ACC team (line started at 9). But, with good reason. Nevada is legit. Despite BC's top ranked rushing defense, they haven't seen anything like this Pistol attack led by the Ostrich. I just can't see this game being close let alone Nevada losing. Look for the win and Wolf Pack cover.
