PS Bowl-A-Thon 2010: TicketCity Bowl

TicketCity Bowl

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!

The Where and When:
January 1st, 12:00 p.m. est, Cotton Bowl, DALLAS, TX ESPNU.

The Who:
Northwestern Wildcats (7-5, 3-5 Big 10) vs Texas Tech Red Raiders (7-5, 3-5 Big 12)

The Why:
The Wildcats finished 8th in the Big Ten and are entering their 3rd straight bowl games. But they are still looking for their first win since 1949.

Texas Tech is entering it's second straight bowl game after finishing 7th in the Big 12 this year.

What Smartypants Accounting Guy Would Tell You:
Northwestern is a fairly average team. The 48th ranked total offense puts up just 25.4 ppg (75th). They throw better than they run with the 39th and 68th ranked passing and rush offense. Defensively they struggle a bit. Just 93rd in total defense they give up 27.7 ppg (67th). With the 92nd rush and 85th pass defense they don't really lock you down.

Tech on the other hand is still air raiding it out under first year head man Tommy Tubberville. The 18th ranked total offense puts up 32.1 ppg (34th). And true to form they are 81st rushing and 8th in passing offense. In what certainly makes Tubbs lay awake at night, the defense is not good. Just the 116th total defense they give up 30.3 ppg (85th). Although they are better than the Wildcats against the run at 66th but they are worse against the pass at 119th.

Tech was even against winning teams at 3-3 where The Wildcats one managed one win in four tries. But verse AQ schools NW was a game better at 4-5 than Tech at 3-5. Down the stretch Tech has the advantage at 3-2 to Northwestern's 2-3.

Pool Prognosticators Pattern:
I love purple. Plus we all know what the Red Raiders are. We do. Don't try and hide it Texas! Go Wildcats!

Vegas Edge
Tech is a 9.5 favorite in this game. Northwestern is just 2-9 ATS this season. With Tech going 5-6.

The Sweatpants Verdict:
The bottom line is the Wildcat's Persa is out and he's that team. With how good Tech's offense has been I can't see the Cats, 1) stopping them or 2) keeping up. It's too bad because with Persa they might have had a chance. Look for Tech to win and cover pretty easily.
