PS Bowl-A-Thon 2010: Tostitos Fiesta Bowl

Tostitos Fiesta Bowl

Let's hope we see this commercial only.

The Where and When:
January 1st, 8:30 p.m. est, University of Phoenix Stadium, GLENDALE, AZ ESPN/ESPN3.

The Who:
Connecticut Huskies (8-4, 5-2 Big East) vs Oklahoma Sooners (11-2, 6-2 Big 12)

The Why:
UConn won the Big East and earned it's fourth consecutive bowl game birth and their first BCS game.

Oklahoma took the Big 12 crown and is headed to it's 44th bowl game all time.

What Smartypants Accounting Guy Would Tell You:
UConn is pedestrian at best. The 96th ranked total offense they put up 26.9 ppg (62nd). They do run the ball well at 30th, but their passing game is bad at 112th. Defensively they are solid. They rank 46th, 22nd, 56th and 43rd in total, scoring run and pass defense.

Oklahoma was more offensively heavy than normal this season. The 12th ranked total offense put up 36.4 ppg (17th). They rely on their 4th ranked passing attack to get them there as they are just 75th in rushing. Defensively they are average. The 56th total defense allows 21.9 ppg (34th). They are better against the pass (51st) than the run (62nd).

Verse winning teams, both were good. UConn was 4-3 and OU went 6-2. UConn defeated the only ranked team it faced. OU is 9-2 against AQ schools. UConn closed 5-0 and OU went 4-1.

Pool Prognosticators Pattern:
I think I've picked Huskies every time and they've won. So I'm sticking with em. Go Huskies!

Vegas Edge
OU is a big favorite at 17 points but was just 7-6 ATS this year. UConn went 7-4 ATS this season. OU was even as the Fav at 6-6 and UConn went 4-2 as the dog.

The Sweatpants Verdict:
In the bowls thus far the Big 12 has been shaky at best. The conference runner up crapped the bed against Washington, Mizzou fell to a reeling Iowa team, Baylor got Zooked. K-State, well they got screwed but still lost. But I don't think that's going to matter here. The pundits are saying don't sleep on the Huskies, but I think they have to say that in order to make this game interesting. OU wins in a blow out.
