Can Wake Forest Rebound?

The good news is that it is a new week for the Wake Forest Demon Deacons, the bad news is that if you were one of the unlucky gamblers that took them at +6 last week you are still probably wondering “what happened.” Wake’s overtime loss at Syracuse is what is considered a “bad beat” in the sports betting world. Wake led by two scores in the second half, but eventually lost the game 36 – 29 in overtime after starting quarterback Tanner Price was injured. Wake head coach Jim Grobe will have to focus on getting last week behind his squad and focusing on North Caroline State, this week’s opponent.

North Carolina State is coming off a 43 – 21 tune up win against Liberty University. The only statistic you can really look at from this victory is the 21 points given up by the Wolfpack defense. Giving up three scores to Liberty could be an indication of issues on the defensive side of ball, particularly the touchdown before halftime that made this a 16 – 7 game going into the break. Liberty was able to put up 279 yards of passing against the Wolfpack’s veteran defensive backfield, which has four returning starters from last season.

The big question for this game will be whether Wake’s Tanner Price is able to play or not. Prior to his injury last week he had completed 18 of 31 passes for 289 yards and three touchdowns. Currently it looks like Price will be able to go for the Demon Deacon’s, giving them a big psychological boost coming off the tough loss. If Price is anywhere near 100% look for him to put up big numbers against the Wolfpack defense.

This game is basically a coin toss with the Wolfpack being favored by just a point and half. I like the Demon Deacons to rebound at home and win this game 27 – 23. I smart play on this game may be taking the over at 49 as neither one of these teams seem to be ready for primetime on defense.
