PS Bowl-A-Thon 2011: Beef 'O' Brady's Bowl

We Are Marshall - Game Day
Get More: We Are Marshall - Game Day
"What day is it?" GAME DAY!

The Where and When:
Tuesday, December 20; 8pm EST - Tropicana Field, St. Petersburg, FL

The Who:
Florida Int'l University (8-4, 5-3 Sun Belt) vs. Marshall (6-6, 5-3 CUSA)

The Why:
Because of Jim Mellody's never-ending pursuit to find that truly great restaurant idea, Beef 'O' Brady's was erected in Brandon, Florida in 1985. After an initial surge of success, Mellody did as any good business man should do...and sold most assets to a higher conglomeration. With over 215 locations in the southeast...they decided a bowl game was the best use of marketing dollars. How many dollars? Enough to bring FIU, fourth in Sun Belt, and Marshall, third in CUSA, to town.

What Smartypants Accounting Guy would tell you:
This is a matchup of FIU offensive star T.Y. Hilton WR against Marshall defensive star Vinny Curry DE. Whichever guy can make the biggest impact will lead his team to victory.

The Herd's Vinny Curry has 11 sacks this seasons, with 21 tackles for a loss and 6 forced fumbles. That's how you disrupt an offense! But the Panther offensive line isn't necessarily going to get run over. They've only allowed 13 sacks in 12 games.

The Panther Hilton will be going to the NFL next year. So why not let him shine one last time. An all-around playmaker he is. Every play has "explosion" potential...whether it's out of the backfield, in the return game, or through the air.

Pool Procrastinators Pattern:
"We are Marshall!" Need I explain any further?

Vegas Edge:
FIU is -4.5...which is about how far away they are from St. Petersburg (4.5 hours with a gas up and pee break).  FIU is 6-6 ATS...but when they win, they usually cover. Marshall is 7-5 ATS...and have no consistency on in the books. Both teams have went under in the majority of their games. But come bowl time...offenses pull out all the stops.

The Sweatpants Verdict:
Florida International is simply the better team...with less question marks around them. Marshall had a "Amen" moment to even be eligible for this game. The O/U is 50...so I'm taking the over. FIU by 4.5 is just enough for me to take them too.
FIU 31 - Marshall 24
