PS Bowl-A-Thon 2011: Meineke Car Care Bowl of Texas

Hey lady, if you know all that shit, why go to Meineke?

The Where and When:
Meineke Car Care Bowl of Texas, Reliant Stadium, Houston, TX, December 31st, 2011 12:00 ET ESPN/ESPN3

The Who:
Texas AM Aggies (6-6, 4-5 Big 12) vs Northwestern Wildcats (6-6, 3-5 B1G)

The Why:
The Former Texas bowl pits a Big 12 team against a Big 10 team. This year the Aggies finished seventh in the Big 12 and will enter their 33rd bowl all time and third bowl in a row. Northwestern finds it's way to the bowl game after finishing 9th in the B1G. The Wildcats enter their 10th bowl game and 4th in a row.

What Smartypants Accounting Guy Would Tell You:
Like the rest of the Big 12 the Aggies are offensive minded. Ranking 11th in scoring offense they are putting up 497 ypg (7th). They are good in the passing game (17th) and the running game (19th). SR QB Ryan Tannehill leads the way for the veteran Aggie squad.

Defensively they are similar to the rest of the Big 12, it doesn't really exist. Ranking 76th in scoring defense and 65th in total defense. They are a respectable 13th against the run which might be because they are 112th against the pass.

The Wildcats are led by SR QB Dan Persa. Who should be looking to pass a lot. They Wildcats are the 34th ranked passing attack and 37th ranking rushing offense. They put up 29.5 ppg (49th) and 432 ypg (31st).

On the defensive side of the ball they are similar to the Aggies. Coming in at 65th in scoring they allow 409 ypg. They are not so good against the run at 90th and mediocre against the pass at 62nd.

Pool Prognosticator Pattern:
Smart arty kids verse the farm kids. Evanston is beautiful. I've never been to College Station, but I have been to Austin which is cool. I'm gonna go with the farm kids in this one.

Vegas Edge:
The Aggies are big favorites in this game at -10. On the year though they are only 3-9 ATS. Plus down the stretch they were 1-4. That said they went 4-0 against non winning teams. Northwestern was 5-6 ATS and 3-4 as the dog. The O/U is 68.5 and with these defenses that over should be appealing. I think the play though is the Wildcats and the points.

Sweatpants Verdict:
Initially I was on the Wildcats in this game. AM was bad down the stretch, but that was against Mizzou, OU, KSU, Texas and KU. Their offense is good. Plus this is basically a home game for them, where they went 4-3. I think Northwestern will keep it close, but I think AM will have enough offense to hold them off. Aggies 42-40.
