Quick Buck Thursday

The degenerate in your soul can rest a little easier, because Quick Buck Thursday is back for another season.

If you remember last season, things didn't go all that well for QBT. And for that reason (as I covered in the SOTS post), I invited my fellows Productive Sweatpants writes to get in and bail me out this season. Yes, I've swallowed my pride and gave in to SEC Guy's pleas to get in on this all in an effort to bring you winner each week.

So this season, with the addition of the fellows, each of us receives an initial balance of 20 "units". Each week we will provide one or two picks and determine our unit wager. As the season progresses we will update the standings. This is great for two reasons: First, it'll help you gauge our confidence in the pick. Second, there is never a bad opportunity for a little friendly competition.

All that said, here's to a great season and a Bookie who pays for a new car at the end of it.

Drake's Picks:

Eastern Michigan +3.5 @ Ball State - 3 Units
I'm starting the year out with a bang. Eastern Michigan made huge strides last season under Ron English. They are picked to contend for the MAC title. Ball State is coming off a good season, but lost a ton of guys. The line as moved from -6 to -3 and 100% of the money is still on Eastern. If I were you I would grab the +135 money line on this one and kick this season off right.

Notre Dame @ Navy +15.5 - 1 Unit
Nothing gives me more pleasure than to share this pick. This game is in Ireland for some crazy reason. Notre Dame has another new QB and just a ton of questions. Navy will do what Navy does and figure out a way to slow the game down and keep it close. This is another game where almost 100% of the money is on the underdog. Take Navy and the point and kick Saturday of with a celebration.

McCoy's Pick:

Minnesota @ UNLV +8.5 - 5 Units
This really pains me as a hater of the Big Ten and resident of Las Vegas, but I just can not image a world in which the Rebels give any BCS school a challenging matchup. Granted, Minnesota is not a powerhouse by anyone's definition, but this is certainly Bobby Hauck's last season and I feel the team has already given up on him. To let you know how bad it is, I am a college football fan and they are my hometown team, yet I still had to Google who the coach of UNLV was. They are that irrelevant. This line will probably move back up when reality checks back into the sports books, so take Minnesota and take them soon.

NV Nole's Pick:

Southern Methodist @ Nebraska -20 - 5 Units

This one is pretty straight forward, Southern Miss had a hell of season last year and this line only being 20 in favor of Nebraska reflects that. Southern Miss has lost their QB and 5 leading defenders from last year’s squad and Nebraska is loaded and they bring back a more seasoned Taylor Martinez at the QB spot. Look for Nebraska to roll in this one and win big in home sweet home Lincoln.
