Drake's Divination: Week 2 - A Move To The Darkside

The Divination is now all about the Anakins baby!

Week one is in the books. Now that I have finally awoken from my state of sad drunkenness brought on by the curb stomping that befell my beloved Wolverines, I can reflect on the week that was.

Week 1 picks

Washington State @ BYU
Line: BYU -13
Result: BYU 30 - 6
Divination: BYU 37 - 30
Quote: Pick was right but I missed ATS. The Cougars (of WSU) have a long way to go.

Southern @ New Mexico
Line: N/A
Result: NM 66 - 21
Divination: NM 33 - 27
Quote: Maybe the old guy isn't all that rusty.

South Dakota St @ Kansas
Line: N/A
Result: KU 31 - 17
Divination: KU 42 - 24
Quote: Closest pick I had all week.

Toledo @ Arizona
Line: AZ -10
Result: AZ 24 - 17
Divination: AZ 35 - 20
Quote: Turnovers killed this ATS win.

Michigan @ Alabama
Line: Bama -14
Result: Bama 41 - 14
Divination: Bama 24 - 20
Quote: Awe cute, the score is a palindrome.

Week 2 Divination

Because I took enough shit from NV Nole last Saturday on how worthless it was to have picks without the gambling edge, I conceded and brought his approach to the Divination. No more FCS matchups. I promise.

South Florida Bulls (1-0, 0-0 Big East) @ Nevada Wolfpack (1-0, 0-0 MWC)
Saturday 9/8, 3:35 pm ET CBS
Line: Nevada -1

Last week the Bulls didn't put on an offensive show by any standard, but they were efficient and effective converting on all three trips to the red zone. Defensively, they were very good. Yes, I know, it was Chattanooga. That said, they gave up just 1.09 yds/carry. That's impressive regardless of who you're playing.

Nevada went in and beat a horrendous Cal team. They scored all four of their touchdowns via the ground and are breaking in a new signal caller. I'm hoping this game was an indication of how bad Cal is and not the other way around.

I think USF holds down the Wolfpack rushing attack which causes their young QB to makes some mistakes. The game finishes under 54 with USF squeaking out a victory 27 - 24.

(7) Georgia Bulldogs (1-0, 0-0 SEC) @ Missouri Tigers (1-0, 0-0 SEC)
Saturday 9/8, 7:45 pm ET ESPN2
Line: Georgia -2

This game marks Mizzou's maiden voyage into the SEC conference. Think they're feeling the pressure? For some reason Mizzou players are already making comments comparing their new conference foes to the god-awful B1G! I guess that's what you get, Georgia, by not pounding a MAC team. Hmmm maybe Sheldon is on to something.

How bad is Buffalo? Who knows.

Is Georgia over-rated? Maybe.

Were the Dawgs peeking ahead to this game? Likely. What is known is Georgia had a tough time stopping Buffalo's running game and Mizzou can run the football.

Should be a good one in Columbia. Georgia is without at least two starters on D. I'm calling for a good start for a pumped-up Tiger's squad. Missouri 30 - 27

Vanderbilt Commodores (0-1, 0-1 SEC) @ Northwestern Wildcats (1-0, 0-0 B1G)
Saturday 9/8, 8:00 pm ET Big Ten Network
Line: Vandy -3.5

What really happened Saturday? Are the Gamecocks that bad or does James Franklin have this Vandy team believing? Got me. SCAR's QB got banged up making them one-dimensional. That said, on offense, Vandy did pass the ball pretty effectively.

Northwestern came out and did Northwestern-type things. They were solid on offense and ok on defense. Regardless of the team they field, playing at Syracuse is tough. It's even tougher to win ATS in the dome. Northwestern did both.

I think the Vandy-hype train has left the station and has driven this line up since it opened. That always get's my attention. I like Northwestern to cover and get the upset. NW 31 - 30

(18) Oklahoma State Cowboys (1-0, 0-0 Big 12) @ Arizona Wildcats (1-0, 0-0 Pac 12)
Saturday 9/8, 10:30 pm ET PAC 12 Network
Line: Ok St -10.5

Woo Offense!!!

After week one, one team is 26th in rushing and 7th in passing offense while the other is ranked 2nd in rushing and 31st in the passing game. Wanna guess which is which?

Arizona is team one and Ok St is team two.

A Rich Rod offense passed for more yards than it rushed. Soak that in. College football is weird sometimes.

Nothing makes me love this game more than just so I can watch two crazy offenses go at it. It's like watching the two hot chicks in your office work out their differences in a pudding-wrestling match. There are really no losers.

Any hoo, I think Ok State's defense is much better than what Arizona brings and that gets them over in this game. At the very least, bet the over 69.5.

Now if I can just find the PAC 12 network. I didn't even know that existed. Ok St 42 - 30

(24) Florida Gators (1-0, 0-0 SEC) @ Texas AM Aggies (0-0, 0-0 SEC)
Saturday 9/8, 3:30 pm ET ESPN
Line: TAMU -1.5

The billboard thing is really stupid on the part of the TAMU alumni. I mean, come on? That aside, it's the second new SEC team making it's conference debut. The difference here is we have a new coach making his debut as well, which is tough.

Florida had a bit of a rocky start, but last week showed a strong running game and this week they settled on a starting QB. They also sport a veteran defense, which should rank among the top in the SEC this year.

TAMU will be fired up, but I have a feeling Muschamp will be returning to College Station with a chip on his shoulder. Look for the Gators to rudely welcome the Aggies to the SEC. Florida 30 - 20

The Divination record
Straight up - 5-0
ATS - 1-2
