Tuesday's Did You Know - Westside Edition

Did you know Las Vegas has a professional football team? Well, we do. Kind of. They are the Las Vegas Locomotives; one of 4 teams in the largely unknown United Football League. Most Southern Nevadans don't know they exist and fewer yet attend their games. Sadly, they're the best team that calls Las Vegas home and they still can't draw a crowd.

But this isn't really about the Locos. Its about their coach, Jim Fassel. Yes, that Jim Fassel, who coached the NY Giants to a Super Bowl appearance in 2000. Why should you care? Well, chances are you won't, but I believe UNLV will be looking for a new coach after this season (or at least they should be) and Coach Fassel will be looking for a new job due to lack of interest in the UFL. He's already coaching a team who plays in Sam Boyd Stadium that no one watches. However, he has won two UFL Championships in his three years as coach of the Locos and it would only take one 6-6 season with UNLV to get the natives excited about football again.
