PS Bowl-A-Thon 2012: Beef ‘O’ Brady’s Bowl

I'm embracing the commercialism of Bowl season with an actual Beef 'O' Brady's commercial. What in the wide, wide world of sports is wrong with these people?

The When/Where:
Friday, December 21st at 7:30 p.m. EST. Tropicana Field, St. Petersburg, FL. ESPN.

The Who:
Central Florida Golden Knights (9-4, 7-1 CUSA) vs. Ball State Cardinals (9-3, 6-2 MAC)

The Why:
Because everyone loves football in a baseball stadium. Beef’O’Brady’s is apparently some sort of restaurant that looks like a cross between an Irish bar and an Applebee’s. I’ve never been. My guess is both teams will be sick of it by the end of the week if not just flat out sick.

Central Florida is the Conference USA representative. They lost to Tulsa twice, but also to Missouri and Ohio State. Nearly upset the Tigers, actually.  George O’Leary was the Notre Dame coach for 47 seconds.

Ball State is subbing in for the Big East Conference, which it is supposed to join next year, who was unable to fulfill its obligation, both because they have horrible football teams and the fact that the conference membership changes more often than Lindsey Lohan at a …ah nevermind. The Cardinals lost to Clemson, Kent State and Northern Illinois. Not bad.

What Smartypants Accounting Guy Would Tell You:
Both teams are in the top 30 in scoring points and average over 400 yards per game. A clash between similar offenses with strong running games and dual threat quarterbacks.

The defense may be the difference. Ball State gives us 31 ppg and 205 ypg on the ground. UCF has a better defense, 22.5 ppg, but they aren’t the Baltimore Ravens. Or really any NFL defense.

Pool Prognosticators Pattern:
George O’Leary has resurfaced in Orlando. I know the UCF SID, so there’s that. I’ve been to Orlando several times. It’s a city, granted with Disney in it, but nothing that’s blown me away.

Ball State of course is David Letterman’s alma mater. I’ve really grown tired of Letterman and his liberal propaganda. He just rubs me the wrong way now. In the way that all celebrities do that have decided that being on TV or in the movies entitles their opinion to greater weight.

The Vegas Edge:
UCF by 7 points. Over/Under is 61.5 points.
The Sweatpants Verdict:
An underrated bowl game with two very good teams with great offenses. It’s a home game essentially for UCF. I’ll go with the better defense, but I think Ball State keeps it close to the end. UCF 35 Ball State 30.
