PS Bowl-A-Thon 2012: Buffalo Wild Wings Bowl

If this happens, the BWW Bowl will become an instant classic

The When/Where:
Saturday, December 29th at 10:15 p.m. EST. Tempe. ESPN.

The Who:
Texas Christian Horned Frogs (7-5, 4-5 Big 12) vs. Michigan State Spartans (6-6, 3-5 Big Ten)

The Why:
I miss the Copper Bowl. Which then became the Insight Bowl. Which is now the Buffalo Wild Wings Bowl. The commercials here are going to be unbearable. However the game continues to feature the Big 10 versus the Big 12.

This would have been a great match up in 2011, when both teams won 11 games. Instead it's 2012 where neither won a home conference game after starting the season ranked in the top 25.

Michigan State massively underperformed in 2012. The Spartans were once thought to be Big 10 favorites. The Spartans limped through the Big 10 winning only 3 conference games. State travels well enough to get them to beautiful Tempe for the holidays.

TCU tied for 5th in the Big 12. In their first year of being in one of the major conferences, finishing bowl eligible has to be considered a success. The Horned Frogs beat Texas and hung with Oklahoma  before losing by 7 to finish the season.

What Smartypants Accounting Guy Would Tell You:
Despite having Le’Von Bell, the Spartans finished 74th in rushing and 109th in scoring at 20.3 ppg.  Andrew Maxwell has tried to fill in for Kirk Cousins, but that was a tall task. The Defense finished in the top 10 in scoring defense, giving up 16.3 ppg.

TCU also has a solid defense. They finished 34th overall, giving up 23 ppg.  The offense is pretty average.  They are 64th in total yards. Freshman Trevone Boykin took over mid-year after the starter was arrested for a DWI. He’s thrown 15 TDs and 9 INTs.

Pool Prognosticators Pattern:
Michigan State reminds me of Iowa on offense. Can’t throw the ball. Plus they are a Big 10 team, so you can expect an awful bowl performance.

TCU, once again, I know Sports Information staff there, but she never writes. Gary Patterson has ties to Pittsburg State, which makes it hard to root for him.

The Vegas Edge:
TCU by 2.5 Over/Under is 40.5

The Sweatpants Verdict:
I don’t have any idea how TCU moves the ball in this game. Nor do I have any idea how Michigan State moves the ball. Play the under.

TCU 21 Michigan State 10.
