PS Bowl-A-Thon 2012: Kraft Fight Hunger Bowl

This is what I think of when you say a Bowl Game in San Francisco
The When/Where:
Saturday, December 29th at 4 p.m. EST. San Francisco. ESPN.

The Who:
Navy Midshipmen (8-4) vs. Arizona State Sun Devils (7-5, 5-4 PAC12)

The Why:
Both teams have won their last two, including beating their biggest rival. Arizona State is the #6 team from the PAC-12 Conference. Navy, and I don’t quite understand this, but apparently they had the bowl before the year started. All they had to do was get bowl eligible.

Formerly the Emerald Bowl, it will be moving to the new Santa Clara stadium soon, but this year it will continue to be in AT&T Park where both teams will be on the same sideline. That should be outlawed.
What Smartypants Accounting Guy Would Tell You:
Buckle up those chin straps, because Navy is bringing the old triple option offense. The nation’s sixth-ranked rushing offense averages 275 yards on the ground per game. The Midshipman rarely throw and average about 24 points per game.

Arizona State runs a versatile, up tempo offense that will pick at you the whole game. The Sun Devils average 36 ppg. A key to this game will be how prepared are the Sun Devils to stop the option. The good news is that they have had extra time to prepare for it unlike a regular season game.

Pool Prognosticators Pattern:
I have visited the Naval Academy in Annapolis and it’s a beautiful campus in a neat city. Also, as a Tom Clancy fan, I remember that Jack Ryan used to teach there.

Arizona State is one of the schools that if I had to pick a college over again, I might need to take a second look at. Others include Georgia, UCLA and Hawaii. Iowa has played in Tempe and it usually doesn’t go well.

The Vegas Edge:
Arizona State is a 14.5 favorite. Over/Under is 56
The Sweatpants Verdict:
Arizona State is the better team. I like the extra time to work on the option. More than two touchdowns though? In a bowl game? I can’t be down with that as a matter of principle.
Arizona State 31 Navy 21
