Sweatpants Lessons: Week 4

Through a jet-lagged haze I was able to catch some college football this weekend. Here's what I learned:

Games are four quarters!
I'm talking to you Baylor and TAMU! Both of you with zero points in the fourth quarter. Look, I understand that you had your 8th string in, but damn it there are overs we need to hit. At least Baylor hit it's over in the third, TAMU. Shame on you! SHAME!

Feeling Blue
Oh Michigan. It's looking like the Notre Dame game was just another close win over a not so great team. Fourth quarter comebacks against Akron and UConn will do that. This is a young team with a raw QB. Take the bye week and figure some stuff out. Please. Pretty please.

Bulldogs with bite
With its one point, come from behind victory against Boise St, Fresno very well could finish the season undefeated. Or at least until they reschedule that Colorado game at the end of the season. Which with how the Buffs are progressing, could be the nail in the Bulldogs undefeated season.

Columbus QB controversy?
I know it was Florida A&M, but 6 touchdowns in a half is damn impressive. Braxton Miller is electric, but man it's going to be tough to sit down Kenny G. I'm suggesting a gladiator-style fight to the death between them to see who becomes the starting QB.

Best of the Worst
We still have nine teams in FBS who are without a win: Idaho, New Mexico State, San Diego St, UMASS, Hawaii, Miami OH (NTM), Georgia St, W Michigan, FIU. Who will be first to break through? Who will be last? Will any remain winless? FIU won't get it's chance til the last game of the season against FAU. UMASS and Miami OH have a showdown in three weeks. Then two weeks after UMASS has another chance against W Michigan. SDSU and New Mexico State square off next week. Where I think the Aztecs get off the Schneid. The Lobos will have to wait until D2 Abilene Christian comes to town and even then I'm not sure they'll get the W. Hawaii's best chance is when they host UNLV in three weeks. The Vandals have a fairly tough schedule, and will have to wait until November for Old Dominion or the last game of the season against the Lobos. If I had to bet, I'd say FIU or Idaho have a goose egg in the win column come season's end.

Quick Hits

  • Is Washington for real? We'll find out over this next three week stretch.
  • Notre Dame? Not so good.
  • Miami, Clemson or FSU? Not sure yet. Wouldn't surprise me if we see each team with one loss to end the season.
  • LSU, legit? The defense has always been there, but has the offense come around?
