Sweatpants Lessons: Week 5

Well it’s before seasons end and Kiffikins is out at USC. If you remember, this was a learned lesson in Week 2. In the meantime Ed Orgeron is taking over the helm in LA. This will equate to many enjoyable press conferences. Enjoy Trojan fans

Oregon, Baylor and Louisville are all top five scoring defenses and top ten in scoring offenses (Baylor and Oregon are 1 and 2). Now adjust for competition, but there might be something to this fast offense thing; or playing in the AAC.

Northern Illinois looks like it could go undefeated on the season. Never rule out the power of MACtion, because with two Wednesday (yes, Wednesday) games against Ball State and Toledo in November anything can happen. But if they escape those two games and win the MAC championship against likely opponent Bowling Green, NIU could run the table. The question is will a BCS bowl take another chance on them after last year?

More Points, Please!
Arizona St, Baylor, Buffalo, Georgia, Florida St, LSU, NIU, Troy and UAB have gone over in all their games this season. Baylor and FSU are basically doing it on their own, with UAB and Troy being ever so gracious to their opponents. If you’re not reading Quick Buck Thursday and need a winner, you can’t go wrong with picking the over in one of these nine’s games.

Winner Winner Chicken Dinner
While we’re gambling, need to pick a winner? There are seven teams that are 100% ATS this season. They are: Baylor, Houston, Maryland, Oregon, UCF, UCLA and Wisconsin. On the flip side none of these teams has covered thus far: Kansas, UNC, FIU, Fresno, C Mich, Cal, Tulsa, Notre Dame or SMU. The likelihood is this won’t continue, but if two or three of these teams aren’t in your pick set each week, you may consider taking your money and buying some nice low-yielding government bonds.

Quick Hits
  • UCF is pretty good. They played toe to toe with SCAR.
  • Georgia’s secondary is awful. If it wasn’t for Murray and the offense they’d be sunk.
  • There is nothing worse than watching a VT/GT football game. Shame on ESPN for putting on TV.
  • Oh wait, there was Pitt/Virginia.
  • Houston and UCF are legit threats to Louisville. Fortunately for the Cardinals they get both at home.
