PS Bowl-A-Thon 2013: Buffalo Wild Wings Bowl

Bill Snyder is my inner coach.

The When/Where:
Saturday, December 28th at 10:15 p.m. EST. Tempe. ESPN.

The Who:
Michigan Wolverines (7-5, 3-5 B1G) @ Kansas State Wildcats (7-5, 5-4 Big XII)

The Why:
Big Ten and Big XII head-to-head. Always a good game for B1G guys living in Big XII country.

Michigan crapped it's way through the conference season setting records for rushing ineptitude along the way. Finishing 8th in the B1G and getting shipped out to Tempe.

K-State plodded it's way through the Big XII finishing 5th in the conference.

What Smartypants Accounting Guy Would Tell You:
Michigan is one of those "potential teams". They have games against Ohio State where they put up 603 yds and 41 points and then turn around and have a Nebraska game and put up 13 point on 175 yards. They rank 35th in scoring offense and do it through the air as they are the 102nd ranked rushing offense. Just bad. They're defense is average at best. Giving up 26.5 ppg and holding up better against the run than the pass.

The Wildcats are a similar bunch with a better rushing offense. They put up 33.4 ppg, rank 54th, 76th and 71st in rush, pass and total offense. Defense is just as average as the Wolverines. They give up 23.7 ppg and are solid against the pass and run.

K-State has the better overall and offensive efficiency numbers where the Wolverines are better defensively.

Pool Prognosticators Pattern:
I've seen both these teams play live. Hail to the Victors is way better than that Cannonball thing the Wildcat fans do. Not to mention Willie is creepy.

The Vegas Edge:
Kansas State -5.5 O/U 55

Both teams come in at 7-5 ATS and just about as even O/U (12-13). In spreads of this size the Wolverines play the role of the dog better at 2-1, then the Wildcats do a favorite (0-1).

The Sweatpants Verdict:
I hate that I have to preview this game. I'm not in my right mind. This Michigan team is so damn frustrating, it's hard to tell what's going to happen. We found out yesterday that Gardner is out for this game and the Wolverines are going to battle with true Freshman Shane Morris. Did the frosh QB get enough reps with the first team to be effective? I'm not sure that's possible with the line play of the Wolverines.

That said, Michigan's defense can be good enough against a heavy run Wildcat team. Against not Carlos Hyde and Braxton Miller they kept the Wolverines in all the games they played.

With Gardner I think Michigan had a good chance. Without him, I can't see the offense doing much.

Kansas State 20 - 12
