PS Bowl-A-Thon 2013: Chick-Fil-A Bowl

This is what comes up when you search Chick-fil-a cow death.

The When/Where:
Wednesday, December 31st at 8:00 p.m. EST. Georgia Dome, Atlanta. ESPN.

The Who:
(24) Duke Blue Devils (10-3, 6-2 ACC) @ (21) Texas A&M Aggies (8-4, 4-4 SEC)

The Why:
Fulfilling the Chick-fil-A Bowl ACC team and SEC team this season are stalwarts of both conferences Duke and Texas A&M. I love college football.

Duke put together a really nice season, played for the ACC championship and has reached their second bowl game in two years. And your prize: facing your second Heisman trophy holder in two games. Yippie!

A&M had a bit of disappointing season. They enter their 35th bowl game all time and look to add a victory to their 15-19 bowl record.

What Smartypants Accounting Guy Would Tell You:
Johnny Football time! A&M is the 5th scoring, 7th passing and 4th total defense in the nation. Ranking just 45th in rushing, this offense is all about Manziel. And it's too bad he can't play defense too. A&M gives up 30.9 ppg good for 90th nationally. They are 109th against the run, 78th against the pass and 106th in total defense. A&M has to score a lot to win. SEC!!!

Duke isn't much better on defense. But better. Giving up 24.7 ppg, they are the 76th, 70th and 72nd in rush, pass and total defense. On the other side of the ball they are an averagish offense. Putting up 31.6 ppg the are the 61st, 64th and 68th rush, pass and total offense.

Adjusting for schedule and the tale is pretty much the same. A&M is 22nd, Duke is 36th. A&M has the offensive edge and Duke the defensive.

Pool Prognosticators Pattern:
Texas A&M will win this one because Aggie sounds like Maggie. This is a direct quote.

The Vegas Edge:
A&M -12.5, O/U 75

A&M went 5-7 ATS this season. And as a favorite with this line range they went 0-3 ATS. Duke was pretty great all year going 10-3 ATS and 5-2 as the dog.

An A&M total has never been less than 62. Of which they went over 8 times. In high totals Duke went over 2 out of 5 times.

The Sweatpants Verdict:
I had a nice run with Duke all year. They are a pretty decent team. Do they have enough defense to slow down Johnny Football? That's the question. Johnny is NFL bound and he'll want to go out on a good note. But, I think Duke has enough offense to keep it respectable. Which is why I like them to cover, but fall just short of the victory.

Texas A&M 38 - 35
