PS Bowl-A-Thon 2013: Gildan New Mexico Bowl

Even if the game sucks you can still do all of this!

The When/Where:
Saturday, December 21st at 2 p.m. EST. Albuquerque, New Mexico.

The Who:
Washington State Cougars (6-6, 4-5 Pac-12) @ Colorado State Rams (7-6, 5-3 MW)

The Why:
The bowl season kicks off in Albuquerque once again this year and should be a good one. Last season was a record setting game for the bowl as Arizona topped Nevada in the closest and highest scoring New Mexico Bowl. This season the Cougars finished 9th in the Pac-12 while the Rams finished 5th in the revamped Mountain West.

What Smartypants Accounting Guy Would Tell You:
It looks as if the Ol Pirate Coach Leech's Air Raid offensive system has taken hold in Pulman. Averaging 423 yds per game they rank 53rd in the nation. It's of course led by the 4th ranked passing offense. Where they fall short is on the defensive side of the ball where they are 102 in total offense and 92 in scoring offense. Hard to win that way. In the total efficiency department they're sitting at 58.

Colorado State gets it done on the offensive side of the ball. As the 28th ranked total offense they are rushing for 203 yds per game and passing for 258. Pretty balanced. Defensively they are giving up 28.6 pts per game sitting at 75th nationally. And they're strength isn't against the pass at just 111th nationally.

Pool Prognosticators Pattern:
Cougars hunt rams, right? Well they should if they don't. I mean all they have are those silly horns on their heads. A cougar could totally sneak up behind a ram and attack it away from those horns. Cougars!

The Vegas Edge:
The line sits at Washington St -4.5. And is on the move. It started at -3.5. All signs point to the Cougars in this one. Wash St is 9-3 ATS on the year. Although CSU is 9-4 ATS on the year as well. In two games favored by less than 6.5 pts, The Cougars went 2-0. And they are ranked higher in both offense and defense efficiency. These two teams combined over record was 14-8-2 and the over has dropped a point from open to 65.
The Sweatpants Verdict:
The key here for me is that CSU's passing defense is 111th in the country. That's no bueno for the Rams. Leach and the Air Raid offense should find plenty of success in this game. I like the Cougars to win by a touchdown and for this game to go over.

WSU 38 - 30
