PS Bowl-A-Thon 2013; Godaddy.com Bowl

godaddy.com baby!

The When/Where:
GoDaddy.com Bowl, Ladd-Peebles Stadium, Mobile, AL, January 5, 2013, 9:00 pm ET

The Who:
Arkansas State Red Wolves (7-5, 5-2 Sun Belt) @ Ball State Cardinals (10-2, 7-1 MAC)

The Why:
Godaddy.com bowl takes the winner of the Sun Belt and the #2 team from the MAC. With ULL, and NIU darting off to other bowls Arkansas State returns and Ball State makes an appearance.

Ark State returns without it's head man again and is in it's second straight bowl game and third all time. Ball State heads to it's second straight bowl and seventh all time.

What Smartypants Accounting Guy Would Tell You:
The Red Wolves are fairly average across the board and rely on defense to win. The 60th, 24th, 88th and 59th ranked scoring, rush, pass and total offense they are only putting up 29.7 ppg. Thankfully for them the defense only gives up 26.7 ppg. They rank 83rd, 71st and 80th in rush, pass and total defense.

Ball State is your classic MAC squad. The 79th, 9th and 17th ranked rush, pass and total offense they Cardinals put up 40.1 ppg good for 11th nationally. And then we look at the defense, which actually isn't horrible. They actually only give up 24.8 ppg. But, they are 92nd 58th and 86th in rush, pass and total defense. Looks like a bend but don't break situation.

The efficiency numbers lean to Ball state. Ranked 52nd overall they have both the offensive and defensive edge. Ark State is ranked just 93rd.

Pool Prognosticators Pattern:
Red Wolves. Canis Lupus rufus. Look at that we just did Latin. I like wolves.

The Vegas Edge:
Ball State -7, O/U 64.5

The Red Wolves are just 5-6-1 ATS on the year. Their games went over 7 out of 12 times. Ball State was better at 8-4 ATS.

The Sweatpants Verdict:
It's hard for teams to move on after losing their head coach. It has to be effecting these kids to have it happen two years in a row. Add in that Ark St went 0-4 against winning teams, I don't see things going well for them. Ball State looks like the better team here.

Ball St 35 - 24
